6 Reasons Why Iggy Azalea Is the Queen of TikTok

Usually when a big music artist joins TikTok, it’s to promote an upcoming album or single–but not Iggy Azalea.

No, Iggy joined the video sharing app purely for fun and seemingly as a quarantine activity, launching her account in August 2020 by announcing that she’s “here to ruin TikTok.” She has since done quite the opposite, racking up 2.4 million followers and sharing endless hilarious content.

Just this week, the Australian rapper twerked in celebration of Joe Biden’s presidential victory, throwing it back to a sound that says, “Repeat after me: Biden is soon to be your daddy.”

In honor of Iggy’s app of choice, Billboard has compiled six reasons why the rapper is unequivocally the queen of TikTok. See them below.

1. She knows all the trends

Celebrities on TikTok can often be cringey or out of touch with how the app works, but Iggy is hip to all the trends and often takes part in them. When users shared events that have given them thick skin to the chorus of La Roux’s “Bulletproof,” the rapper joined in. “You think you can hurt my feelings? My baby cries when I play my music,” she wrote over a colorful video of her making faces at the camera.

She also shared her gas station order to the tune of Nick Thompson and Og Ty’s “Hot Girl Summer.” Her go-to picks include Ferrero Rocher chocolates, peach tea mixed with lemonade and a hot dog.

2. She can make fun of herself

Iggy doesn’t take herself too seriously on TikTok. In October, she poked fun at comments that compared her to the White Chicks’ Wilson sisters. She’s seen lip syncing against a photo of the film’s characters to a viral sound that boasts, “Hey guys, so da da da da, yes I did that. And you would do it too for a check. I was an employee, and I was going to get employee of the month and that’s on period.”

The rapper also clapped back at haters who claim she hasn’t put out a good song since her 2014 breakout hit, “Fancy.”

“Me after dropping ‘FANCY,’” she captioned a video in which she’s seen walking down a hallway in the music video’s Clueless-inspired outfit before completely vanishing.

3. She’s so, so funny

Whether she’s joking about stealing ducks from the park, or her childhood fashion choices, Iggy has really shown off her comedic side on TikTok.

In one of her most-viewed videos (22 million at the time of publication), the rapper reveals what she says “when the old man next to me on the plane asks what I do.” She twerks, looks up how many records she has sold, gets her makeup done and poses to the tune of Rocky Paterra’s sound that explains, “I have a full time job as an accountant… Nobody asks you questions when you say you’re an accountant.”

4. She teams up with other popular creators

Iggy doesn’t just collaborate on musical projects. The star has teamed up with other TikTokers too, posting a “polar opposite friends check” with JoJo Siwa and a dance challenge with Michael Le and his siblings.

Most recently, she revealed her “obsession” with Duke Depp, who dresses up as Willy Wonka on the platform.

5. Always spitting wisdom

“You have to start blaming your star sign for your toxic behavioral problems,” she preached in September. “For example, you can’t trust s— I say, but I just blame it on being a Gemini.”

6. Slays the makeup game

When she’s not joking around on TikTok, Iggy is flaunting gorgeous makeup looks including a transformation into Sleepy Beauty villain Maleficent, an angelic purple smokey eye, a drag makeup look in collaboration with Trixie Mattel and a sparkling, Euphoria-inspired style.
