Here’s Why ‘Captain Kelly’ Clarkson Is Rocking an Eye Patch at ‘The Voice’ Battle Rounds

The Voice’s battle rounds kick off this week, and coach Kelly Clarkson is going full pirate mode, sporting an eye patch while mentoring her team alongside guest Leon Bridges.

“So obviously today you’re going to notice something different about me. I feel like I could be a really great super villain,” she joked in an episode preview of her new accessory, which actually looks pretty chic when paired with her red lipstick and gold hoops.

“Something got in my eye and it got a little infected, so I have to wear an eye patch,” she explained. Clarkson also shared the Voice clip to Twitter on Tuesday (Nov. 10), writing, “Instead of Coach Kelly for the battle rounds… y’all get Captain Kelly.”

If Clarkson’s eye patch looks familiar, it’s because the battle rounds are pre-recorded. The singer rocked the accessory on her talk show in September, and even performed a Kellyoke version of Harry Styles’ “Adore You” with it on.

“We did this long shoot for The Voice and I was up in this window. These buildings out here on the Universal lot are all dusty and I’m highly allergic to dust. Well, something had gotten in my eye… and maybe cut it, did something,” she told NBCLA at the time. “It got infected… When it first happened it was so puffy. I was like, ‘What am I supposed to do?’”

Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
