Pinkfong’s unstoppable toddler set earworm “Baby Shark” has officially reached RIAA Diamond status. The 11x platinum “Baby Shark” was a top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching a high of 32 in January 2019, as well as hitting No. 14 on the Streaming Songs tally while spending a total of 59 weeks on the chart. According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, “Baby Shark” has tallied 1.6 billion on-demand streams in the U.S. and sold 216,000 downloads.
It’s been quite the month for the doot-doot-doot-doot-doot ditty, which scored another major milestone last week when the video moved past Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” to become the most-viewed YouTube video of all-time. The signature Pinkfong video currently has 7.13 billion views, slipping above the 2017 single from Fonsi and Daddy Yankee that became a global smash.
The only children’s song in history to make the RIAA’s Gold and Platinum certification list, “Baby Shark” joins the more than 40 other tracks that have achieved Diamond certification to date. According to the RIAA, Diamond certification is defined as 10 million units, with each permanent digital download counting as one unit and 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams also counting as one unit.
