The estate and family of late Soundgarden legend Chris Cornell have today shared a surprise album entitled No One Sings Like You Anymore, a collection of covers, recorded by Cornell in 2016.
The solo covers album features 10 songs by artists who inspired the late musician and is the last ever recorded completed before his death in 2017.
Featured covers include Prince’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, John Lennon’s ‘Watching the Wheels’, Lorraine Ellison’s ‘Stay With Me Baby’ and Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘Showdown’. While its existence as a full album is a surprise, we have heard a track from the posthumous release already this year when, in July, Cornell’s widow Vicky shared a never-before-heard recording of the grunge icon covering Guns N’ Roses‘ beloved ballad, ‘Patience’.
“This album is so special because it is a complete work of art that Chris created from start to finish,” Vicky Cornell said in a statement. “His choice of covers provides a personal look into his favorite artists and the songs that touched him. He couldn’t wait to release it. This moment is bittersweet because he should be here doing it himself, but it is with both heartache and joy that we share this special album. All of us could use his voice to help heal and lift us this year, especially during the holiday season. I am so proud of him and this stunning record, which to me illustrates why he will always be beloved, honored, and one the greatest voices of our time.”
Chris Cornell died in in May of 2017 at the age of 52. See the full No One Sings Like You Anymore tracklist below.
