Donning a green silk dress with exaggerated sleeves, Clarkson delivered a faithful adaptation of the treacly ballad from Parton’s 1984 holiday album, Once Upon a Christmas, with Kenny Rogers.
“Me, I’ll be just fine and dandy/ Lord it’s like a hard candy Christmas/ I’m barely gettin’ through tomorrow/ But still I won’t let/ Sorrow bring me way down,” she crooned on the country song’s chorus while backed by her socially-distanced band and giant screens depicting glittering Christmas trees.
Other holiday-themed Kellyoke numbers Clarkson’s belted out throughout the week include her 2014 hit “Underneath the Tree,” her Brett Eldredge-assisted duet “Under the Mistletoe” and her brand-new cover of Vince Vance & the Valiants’ 1989 single “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which she released as a studio single last month.
Elsewhere this week, The Voice coach also welcomed Garth Brooks to her show to promote his new albums Fun and Triple Live (Deluxe), as well as his new Netflix docu-series Garth Brooks: The Road I’m On. During his appearance, the two performed a number of acoustic duets, including Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow,” Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” and the country icon’s own 1990 hit (and signature song) “The Dance” together.
